歩くことが習慣になっていると、ふと考えることがあります。
「徒歩は電車賃の節約になってるけど、いったいどのくらいの節約になっているのだろうか。コストパフォーマンスはどのくらいなのだろうか。」

さて、徒歩は本当に電車賃の節約になっているのでしょうか？途中で飲み物を買う場合、どのくらいの距離で買ってしまったら損になるのでしょうか？

徒歩は電車賃の節約になるかどうかは、移動する距離や時間、体力や健康状態などによって異なります。
一般的には、徒歩で移動することは運動にもなりますし、電車賃を節約できるメリットがあります。
しかし、徒歩で移動することにもデメリットがあります。例えば、
・徒歩で移動すると、電車よりも時間がかかります。特に長距離や急ぎの場合は、時間的に不便です。
・徒歩で移動すると、天候や気温に影響されます。雨や雪の日は濡れたり滑ったりする危険がありますし、暑い日や寒い日は体調を崩したり熱中症や凍傷になったりする可能性があります。
・徒歩で移動すると、荷物が多い場合は重くて大変です。また、服装や靴も歩きやすいものを選ばなければなりません。

歩いている途中に飲み物を買った場合
歩いている途中にコンビニで150円の飲み物を買ったとします。
「東京駅→新橋駅（移動距離1.7㎞）」までが150円なので、電車賃と料金が一緒をなり、
時間的なコストパフォーマンスの点で電車の方が勝ります。
飲み物を買わずに歩けそうな距離でないと、「節約」と呼ぶのは難しそうです。
損得で考えるなら、時間的、体力的に余裕があり、歩くのに適した季節でなければ電車に乗った方が「得」であると言えます。
電車賃は「なに」を目安に決められているのか
電車賃は、鉄道事業者が国土交通省に申請し、認可された上限額の範囲内で設定されます。
鉄道事業者は、運賃の決定にあたって、事業報酬と経費の合計を考慮します。
事業報酬とは、鉄道事業に投資した資本に対する利益率で、経費とは、人件費や燃料費などの運営にかかる費用です。
運賃の計算期間は3年間で行われます。
運賃は、乗車距離や路線の種類によって異なります。
一般的には、乗車距離が長いほど、1キロメートルあたりの価格は安くなっています。
これを遠距離逓減制といいます。
また、路線には幹線と地方交通線があり、幹線の方が地方交通線よりも運賃が高くなっています。
これは、幹線の方が地方交通線よりも多くの人が利用するためです。
JRは高い？私鉄は安い？
JRと私鉄の運賃は、それぞれの事業者が国土交通省に申請し、認可された上限額の範囲内で設定されます。
事業者は、運賃の決定にあたって、事業報酬と経費の合計を考慮します。
事業報酬とは、鉄道事業に投資した資本に対する利益率で、経費とは、人件費や燃料費などの運営にかかる費用です。
運賃は、乗車距離や路線の種類によって異なります。

JRは東京や大阪などの大都市圏で利用者が特に多い線区や区間においては「特定区間」として、

一方で、私鉄はJRと競合する区間では、運賃を安く設定して利用者を取り込む戦略をとることがあります。
例えば、首都圏では藤沢―新宿間では小田急電鉄がJRよりも安く、品川―横浜間では京浜急行電鉄がJRよりも安くなっています。
また、私鉄はJRと連携して乗り換え割引や乗り放題パスなどを提供することで、
利便性やコストパフォーマンスを高めることもあります。
徒歩はタクシー代の節約になっている？
では、タクシー代で見た時に徒歩は節約になっているのでしょうか？
タクシーに乗った際の具体例
歩けそうな距離で具体例を見ていきます。

タクシー代は電車賃と比較しても割高
単純に、距離と料金で比較した場合、タクシーは割高です。
タクシーは降りる場所が電車と比べて自由が利くこと、呼んだらその場に来てくれること、
電車やバスの停留所が無い所でも運が良ければ捕まえられるところなどがメリットと言え、単純に料金と比較するのは難しそうです。
タクシー代は「なに」を目安に決められているのか
タクシー代は、基本的に「初乗運賃」と「加算運賃」の合計で算出されます。
初乗運賃は、乗車してから一定の距離までの料金で、タクシー会社や車種によって異なります。
加算運賃は、初乗運賃の距離を超えた分について、一定の距離ごとや時間ごとに追加される料金です。
タクシー代は、各事業者が国土交通省に申請し、認可を受けた上限額の範囲内で設定されます。
タクシー代は、地域によっても異なります。
全国で100の運賃ブロックに分かれており、各運輸局長が定める運賃適用地域ごとに運賃が決められています。
タクシー代には、初乗運賃や加算運賃以外にも、追加料金が発生する場合があります。
例えば、深夜・早朝の割増や迎車料金や予約料金や待機料金や冬季割増料金などです。
タクシー代を事前に知りたい場合は、タクシーサイトを利用して、タクシー料金を調べることができます。
また、タクシーアプリを利用すると、行き先を設定すると運賃の目安を確認できたり、事前確定運賃のサービスを利用できたりします。

距離・時間・料金の単純比較だと、電車のコストパフォーマンスがいかに高いかが分かります。
しかし、徒歩には徒歩のメリット、タクシーにはタクシーのメリットがあり、単純比較することは難しそうです。

「徒歩は電車賃の節約になる？」のまとめ
私自身が歩くことが好きなので、徒歩のメリットをあげようと思えばいくらでもあげることができます。
・運動になる事
・継続していると体力がついてきたことが実感できること
・様々な景色を見て、様々な発見がある事
などなどです。
ただ、「節約」という観点から徒歩と電車賃を比較すると、時間的にも体力的にもなかなか「節約になる」とは言えません。
趣味、体力づくりにコストパフォーマンスを求めないのと同じで、「ウォーキング・ランニング」にコストパフォーマンスを求めないのと近しいかと思います。
歩く時に「電車賃で、タクシー代でいくらくらいの場所を歩いた」というのはモチベーション維持に繋がることは確かにあります。
でもそれだけではなく、景色や達成感なども併せて、継続して歩けているのではないかと思います。
電車賃・タクシー料金・徒歩の比較表を見て、いくら節約できているのかを考えながら、
